ADDINGHAM PUPILS HAVE THEIR SAY ON THE FUTURE OF THEIR VILLAGE

winners of competition

In order to ensure that the children of the village are able to contribute to the Addingham Parish Plan, pupils on the school council at the village primary school have organised a competition. Pupils were asked to design a poster with the three headings and put down their ideas in pictures or writing, with a chance for one child in each class to win a £10 voucher.

Cllr Graham Lingard, who has been supporting the school council and is one of the Parish planning steering group, judged the entries with Head teacher Jane Drake. Cllr Lingard presented prizes to the winners at the school assembly on Friday 27th June.

“We’ve been running a campaign over recent months within the village to find out what people think are the issues affecting our community, and this is one of the activities to engage younger people in the village,” Cllr Lingard said. “The school council were really enthusiastic about the project with many suggestions on the good, the bad and the future of the village, and they were keen to seek the views of their fellow pupils.”

Grace Simpson (11 years old) who is a member of the school council said “We set up the competition so children could have their say on the good, the bad and the future of Addingham - children’s ideas are just as important as adults’!”
