Key Issues

1.  Prosperity & regeneration

  • Good shops and good range of shops vs missing shops
  • Good public transport vs poor public transport service
  • Designated car park for walkers & tourists
  • Free cash machine
  • Public toilets
  • Address the impact of walkers and tourists for benefit of village
  • Shop fronts
  • For & against Sustrans
  • Impact of tourism on parking
  • Importance of the post office

2. Children & young people

  • Under-age drinking
  • Drugs problems
  • Exclusion of young people
  • Lack of things for young people to do
  • Improve skate park
  • Places for all Addingham children at local schools
  • Scout hut

3. Safer Communities

  • Safety at night
  • Safety issues on Church Street/ North Street/Bark Lane/Bolton Road – due to speed and volume of traffic & large vehicles- need speed restrictions before an accident happens
  • Parking – need more, but causes problems currently and how to manage
  • Speed limit (& how managed)
  • Public transport at night

4. Health & well being for all

  • For & against Sustrans
  • Need more amenities
  • Make more of the gala
  • Locals sports clubs
  • Need for fitness/ sports facilities
  • Commuter cycle path to Ilkley

5. Improving the environment

  • Eyesores
  • No more building vs more homes needed
  • Dog / Horse dirt
  • Protect green space
  • Drains & flooding
  • Doorstep collection of plastics
  • Recycling point
  • Become plastic bag free
  • Commuter cycle path to Ilkley
  • More planting of wild flowers in the verges, much more attractive than boring grass

6. Strong & cohesive communities

  • Policing
  • Make more of the gala
  • Need for affordable housing
  • Graveyard at Parish Church is nearly full – could Parish Council provide a burial ground for the village on accessible land it owns or could buy?
  • Important to keep people informed

Comments and Ideas

1. Prosperity & regeneration

  • Against Sustrans & how consultation done
  • I’m in favour of the footpath
  • Good footpath network
  • Fully integrated Wharfedale Trail plan that includes parking & other integration – impact mitigationIf you are putting paths between Addingham/Ilkley/ Bolton Abbey, we need more PARKING in Addingham – we do not want more cars parked at the edge of the roads, but a designated car park for walkers & tourists please
  • Footpaths cross the bypass – do we have to wait for another casualty before proper provision is made?
  • Maybe we need an information centre providing visitors with details of local facilities etc
  • Addingham is gaining popularity as a base for walkers – we need improve existing footpaths and think about what these extra bodies mean
  • Better pubs (Heifer good, rest bad)
  • Great pubs – particularly food at Fleece & Craven Heifer
  • Smarten up shop fronts, particularly those up from Swan & opp butcher
  • Possibility of a farmers’ market once a month & a green grocer selling cheaper fruit & vegetables??
  • We must support shops & use public transport
  • Takeaways e.g. pizza, Chinese, curry
  • Need a proper newsagent that delivers papers!
  • Great pubs – particularly food at Fleece & Craven Heifer
  • The post office is important (concerns re: closure due to withdrawal of pension cards)
  • Good local shops
  • TESCO needed in future
  • Free cashpoint

2. Children & young people

  • Under-age drinking , particularly around the park & bowling green (empty bottles & cans)
  • Allowing of 18th birthday party functions at Memorial Hall & Golf Club
  • More “youth friendly events”
  • Decent ramps & lighting at the skate park
  • Drugs problems
  • Lights at the skate park: bench, ramps, shelter in park like in BurleyMulti-sports court somewhere
  • in Addingham
  • Get rid of crazy women & crackheads
  • Should the recent changes in secondary school admissions announced 3/3 go unchallenged, families will leave Addingham & businesses will close
  • Good children’s groups
  • We need a “Rainbows” pack & athletics club for secondary school children
  • Many activities e.g. brownies, cubs & parks, but the Youth club isn’t used – no-one goes there
  • We need a sports centre/ swimming pool
  • Parish council must honour their promise to fund/ part fund scout hut as it is important we can trust our elected representatives
  • Youth club – no-one goes there
  • We need a swimming pool, ice skating rink, park for older children
  • No facilities for young people who don’t want to cause trouble i.e. sit & drink coffee & chat
  • The negative attitude of some elderly people towards youth is bad

3. Safer Communities

  • Chaos in side roads by school e.g. blocked driveways
  • 20 mph limit should be raised to 25 mph
  • More parking central to the village, but less on Main Street
  • More parking needed
  • 20mph signs flash when <20 mph
  • Parking on Old Station Way on the hill (problems in bad weather)
  • Good shops
  • 20 mph sign not working & no sign of police enforcement
  • Parking on and blocking pavement opposite newspaper & Adams shops
  • Car parking on footpaths & double parking on both sides obstructs drivers’ view on Main St. Yellow lines MUST be put in as a priority ASAP
  • Traffic calming & speed enforcement on Main St.
  • Provide parking for Main St residents
  • Double parking in Main St is deplorable – no room for prams or disabled, and old people can’t see to cross the road
  • Better access for disabled people to shops- in line with law
  • We need more disabled parking bays, and disabled parking outside shops
  • Notice to give traffic going up Old Station Way priority
  • Need better bus service to Skipton
  • Get rid of speed limit, no speed humps
  • We need a train station
  • Sort parking
  • Night bus to Skipton
  • More lighting up by golf club road
  • Free cash machine (not charge me for withdrawals)
  • Great shops (Adams)
  • Parking – potential accidents? Hope it will be resolved with the new health centre
  • We don’t want yellow lines – we need to ban road rage from Addingham.
  • More evening buses to Ilkley & be better co-ordinated with train arrivals
  • We need better public transport (e.g. to & from Ilkley). Hardly any bus routes run on a Sunday
  • Commuter cycle path to Ilkley. Wld support health & reduce carbon. A65 stretch currently to dangerous
  • speed restriction on A65 would reduce noise and be safer at the exit (motor bikes racing up it!)
  • more zebra crossings
  • parking on Main Street needs to be addressed – should not be allowed on both sides of the street
  • Graveyard at Parish Church is nearly full – could Parish Council provide a burial ground for the village on accessible land it owns or could buy?
  • Silsden Road Park – footpath very dark when alighting from bus to walk through to housing estate. Could we please have a light where the footpath ends (dark area where someone could hide)
  • Stop traffic turning into Bolton Road via the Crown so that they go down the by pass
  • Sleeping policemen in front of the school
  • Ignoring 20mph speed limit on Main Street
  • Lack of parking & garages now they’ve pulled down School Lane garages
  • More checking the speed limit through Addingham
  • Less yellow lines & signs telling us what to do
  • The village is a safe environment
  • We need buses to Skipton on Sundays

4. Health & well being for all

  • Against Sustrans & how consultation done
  • Memorial Hall should be more of a village resource
  • A local swimming pool, perhaps on the old school site or present school site
  • I’m in favour of the footpath
  • Good footpath network
  • Fully integrated Wharfedale Trail plan that includes parking & other integration – impact mitigation
  • If you are putting paths between Addingham/Ilkley/ Bolton Abbey, we need more PARKING in Addingham – we do not want more cars parked at the edge of the roads, but a designated car park for walkers & tourists please
  • More nights for the panto (we couldn’t get tickets this year)
  • Change of stalls & attractions at the gala
  • More village participation at gala
  • Everyone do a “Dingham Dash” after the gala
  • More promotion for Addingham Rounders team
  • Footpaths cross the bypass – do we have to wait for another casualty before proper provision is made?
  • Maybe we need an information centre providing visitors with details of local facilities etc
  • Addingham is gaining popularity as a base for walkers – we need improve existing footpaths and think about what these extra bodies mean
  • We need a gym – loads of people think so & it could be just a once a week session in a hall!
  • More public toilets for Lucy x
  • Multi-sports court somewhere in Addingham
  • Indoor football
  • Possibility of a farmers’ market once a month & a green grocer selling cheaper fruit & vegetables??
  • We need an athletics club for secondary school children
  • We need a sports centre/ swimming pool
  • Good parks
  • We need a swimming pool, ice skating rink, park for older children
  • Addingham needs a safe cycle/ horse riding path. I fully support the proposed Wharfedale Trail

5. Improving the environment

  • Sort out the area opposite the library – the galvanised gate & yellow parking posts
  • No more 3 storey houses
  • Affordable houses only in the future
  • Cleanliness in the village (good)
  • Dog dirt around the school (I have to watch every step my child takes on his journey to and from school
  • Dog mess around the village (including plastic bags full of it thrown into the beck on Bolton Road
  • The becks through village need regularly clearing of debris in places e.g. Back Beck Lane
  • Continue to protect open./ green spaces
  • How long since many drains have been cleaned out (should be an answer to flooding)
  • Addingham needs doorstep collections of plastics or at least a recycling point
  • Stop building – it affects other people and adds to the parking problem
  • Smarten up shop fronts, particularly those up from Swan & opp butcher
  • Addingham to become plastic bag free like Hebden Bridge or Modbury in Devon
  • Always neat & tidy & well-kept
  • Prevent all infill on Greenfield sites
  • Make horse riders pick up the horse’s faeces as it is causing an upset for the neighbours
  • Inscriptions on lower half of war memorial are illegible. Needs to be cleaned up – not just for remembrance day, but permanently!
  • Silsden Road Park – footpath to walk through to housing estate – the drain at this point floods. I had to walk thro’ 5” of water in my best shoes at Xmas
  • Recycling area in the village
  • I love Addingham Church Yard in Spring. Everything is so lovely
  • Dog dirt especially on footpaths (i.e. not pavements)
  • Bottle recycling bins (4 compartment: paper, cans, plastic, rubbish)
  • I like Addingham because I enjoy the scenery & views. I also enjoy using the two parks

6. Strong & cohesive communities

  • Community spirit
  • More police patrols required
  • We must support shops & use public transport
  • A resident police officer would be a good idea.
  • Possibility of a farmers’ market once a month & a green grocer selling cheaper fruit & vegetables??
  • Nice community feeling & atmosphere
  • Better pubs (Heifer good, rest bad)
  • Change of stalls & attractions at the gala
  • More village participation at gala
  • Great pubs – particularly food at Fleece & Craven Heifer
  • Affordable housing made available to the young people of the village
  • Present size of village is good – prospect of more building is bad – prospect of green belt being used for housing not acceptable
  • I’d like more affordable housing so young people don’t have to leave the village
  • No motel – housing instead
  • More affordable houses to be given to people who actually live in Addingham
  • I like the community spirit
  • Friendly village, not busy
  • I thought the latest newsletter was an excellent ide – very informative and reaching out to the wider community
  • The negative attitude of some elderly people towards youth is bad
